Botcho hasn't left his apartment in twenty years. He's allergic to people. Lonely, he falls in love with the only one who can't flair up his allergies: a dead woman. After seeing her headstone-marked simply as Elheena Nestor-he knows she is just like him: alone. He wishes to place a sunflower on her grave at the cemetery across the street, but to do so, he must venture outside.
Other short stories include: "The Potion, Ellie" (a magician posts a want ad, seeking a lady willing to truly disappear, preferably someone who would not be missed by anyone), "Conjuring Gould" (an outcast girl, who prefers to speak through musical scores instead of words, hopes to find the spirit of musician Glenn Gould), "Morgue Magician" (after dying, a magician's wife wants her husband to bring them back to life, but her downhearted husband has no desire to return to the living), "The Well and the Mill" (a wishing well has a wish of her own), "The Girl in Saturn's Rings" (a girl waits for love in the cosmos), and many more in this strange melancholy brew for lonely hearts and outcasts.
