THE RED BOOK OF STORIES: The baker's dozen of stories in this collection are diverse-as diverse as the people in them and the places they inhabit. On reading, you may find yourself in New York or Kentucky, the southern shore of England in sight of the white cliffs of Dover, or in a field of silver cabbages in Northamptonshire. You may find yourself in a schoolroom in Wales, in a semi-detached house in Toronto, or in a small town of green lawns on Georgian Bay.
The stories are an exploration, a journey into the human condition. The protagonist could be young or old, male or female. For certain, the epigraph-the poem that starts the orchestra-is relevant to one of the unifying themes: "Sperm and eggs on the shore/Are we nothing more/Than a life form/ With a God thought for company?"
