Carl R. Sams II and Jean Stoick are professional wildlife photographers who make their home in Milford, Michigan. Their photographs have been represented in national and international publications since 1984. After having their images published in several wildlife books, including Loon Magic and Images of the Wild, in 1999 Carl and Jean decided to publish a children's book about the wild animals they so love.
Stranger in the Woods was released in the fall of 1999. This delightful book uses the couple's photographs to tell the story of resident birds and deer reacting to a snowman that appears in the winter woods. The book was awarded the 2002 Early Childhood
News Director's Choice Award, 2001 International Reading Association Award in the Younger Reader Category, and was the winner of the 2000 Benjamin Franklin Award for Best Children's Picture Book.
This book was followed in 2004 by Lost in the Woods. It's the story of a newborn fawn that appears to the other animals to be abandoned by his mother and they try to step in to help. The In the Woods series continued to grow with the third book, First Snow in the Woods. This book tells of a fawn's first snow and how he must prepare for winter. Each of the In the Woods series books were produced as movies using live video and photography from the books along with added characters and original music.
Stranger in the Woods made its debut on the New York Times bestsellers list in the children's picture book category in 2002. It reached the number one spot and held fast in the top ten for 43 weeks. Lost in the Woods adorned the list for 27 weeks after its debut in
2004. The release of the third In the Woods book, First Snow in the Woods, moved the trio from the “picture book” to the “series” category. The newly designated series remained in the top ten, along with the Harry Potter series, for five weeks.
Carl and Jean continue teaching gentle lessons of nature with heartfelt stories with Tea with Lady Sapphire and smaller children's board books Winter Friends, Find My Friends, When Snowflakes Fall and Happy Bird Day. Their latest children's book, I Am Africa,
came after a trip to Africa allowing readers a glimpse of the magnificence of the continent and its majestic wildlife. A corresponding board book, Babies of Africa, will be released in the summer of 2015.
The photography in Carl and Jean's children's books is incredible to behold. When you add the heartwarming stories and educational lessons each story contains, you can understand why these books have earned nearly 100 awards and are loved by parents, teachers,
grandparents and children across the globe.

I, a single mind and passionate artist.
With promise to
Always do my best, with what I have at the time.
Please journey with me through my writing
I bare all and literally place my life on a line.
Victim of circumstance, offers, enlightenment of which I hope to bare.
Seek solace in the little things Such as this song I share.
You'll see my scars, and nothing to mislay.
However The strength with in my soul never be taketh away.
