In the Shine of Broken Things

Judith Toler has been an editor, English professor, union organizer, artist and award-winning poet. She began writing poetry twenty years ago after retiring from teaching and moving to New Mexico. Since then, dozens of her poems have appeared in literary magazines and anthologies. She previously published a limited edition chapbook, Picasso’s Horse.

Her deceptively simple, sometimes humorous, poems spring from life experiences as well as from a deep commitment to social causes and ethical action. Though each of the sections of the book start out darkly with “broken things,” they end with poems “in the shine of” transcendence and hope.
