A new book chronicles the wartime diaries and mis-adventures of Ephraim Miner, a Western Pennsylvania farmer boy injured at the Battle of Fredericksburg, and who spent more than 2.5 years languishing in the Armys ill-prepared health care and convalescent system. Suffering from survivor guilt, he achieved a sort of spiritual redemption as an old man when honored by his community as a treasured Civil War veteran.
