The rigger suddenly let go. The line spun out for an unusually long time. Looking at the reel it seemed that over half the line was gone. That figured to be at least two hundred yards out.
The line eventually slowed and finally stopped running. It was time to reel in the slack. I cranked and cranked until I began to feel a little resistance. Then there was a throbbing in the line and it began to move by itself. I had set a lot of hooks before, but nothing like this time.
The line went taut and the reel began to sing as the drag kicked in. The next thing I saw was a beautiful silver blue fish leaping several times its length at what appeared to be at least six feet above the water...
