After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941, the US issued currency overprinted with HAWAII to replace normal US currency circulating in Hawaii. During World War II, this emergency issue was the only currency allowed to circulate in Hawaii. Both then and now, this series has been popular with collectors.
