Through writing, photography, and artwork, this multimedia project examines how one artist creates an artistic record of her travels and compares the ability of various artistic media to capture travel experience. The first chapter focuses on the limitations of photography in conveying sensory experiences. The second chapter examines manufactured colors in relationship to what nature gives an artist. The third chapter explores the possibilities for capturing travel experiences in sketches, watercolors, and oils, and compares the results to those of photography. The fourth chapter discusses the value of first-hand experience as material for art. Finally, by soliciting responses to her artwork from fellow travelers and sharing them in the fifth chapter, the artist discusses how those responses expanded her vision and generated ideas for new artwork.
