A Summary
Dr. Polanski, an Epidemiologist is hard at work to discover a possible vaccine for a strange, seemingly causeless virus that is spreading rapidly and threatening the world's population. He suspects bioterrorism and through a former Army scientist who was once employed at the Pentagon is led to believe the United States government was instrumental in creating the strain. He sets out to study its origin, traveling to Mexico, and learns it began there and proliferated in a suspicious manner. He contacts a New York Times reporter, tells of his findings, and when the story makes the paper the reporter ends up mysteriously dead. Dr. Polanski fears his own life is at stake, but he continues researching the disease. His oldest daughter falls in love with a Libyan medical student who is studying with her at Stanford University. Their relationship seems innocent until her father confirms his terrorist ties. After Dr. Polanski's untimely death from an illness he contracts, his daughter becomes alerted and has misgivings about the man she married and seeks to learn the truth about him. He is later arrested but soon released and flees the country. She takes over her father's research, studies his notes, and through the help of others discovers a long awaited vaccine.
