Reformed racketeer, Duke DeGrate, needs a triple bypass to save his life. When his eldest son, Councilman Derek Porter, seeks out and finds Dr. Angelique James, the politician falls in love with her and the two become engaged. In an effort to boost his popularity in the election for Mayoral office, Dr. James aims to save the infamous, war torn housing projects of Chicago, Illinois: Cabrini Green.

Derek consents with the trivial condition that his brother, Darrion DeGrate, accompany the good doctor to keep her safe from harm. Amidst the crack epidemic and the most horrifying gang war in the city's history, Darrion begins to see his former gang ties coming back to haunt him.

Worsening matters, when family monarch, Viola DeGrate, senses a growing passion between Angelique and Darrion, she sees the sordid family history of secrets, lies, and murder threatening to repeat itself.
