Ida Lambert witnessed her mother - her dearest friend - and her beloved eldest brother die from the dreaded disease cancer under treatments offered by traditional allopathic medicine. She watched helplessly, wanting to do something... if only to share their pain, to take away the discomfort she knew they must have felt those last days.

Ida learned to curse the disease which had stolen her loved ones and vowed that when she became financially able she would plow as much money as she could into cancer research, but that was before she fell prey to the disease herself.

In the early 1990's Ida worked for the State of Illinois, as a Research Economist, where she was responsible for writing technical reports on various health care initiatives. During her employment with the State of Illinois, she learned about the disparity in the disease rates of blacks versus whites and found it disturbing.

Ida's career was shattered in 1992 when she fell ill to myelodysplasia, a disease of the blood, an "ultimately fatal disease," aaccording to Lange's Medical Diagnosis & treatment, 1992. Her sickness, coupled with a departmental layoff, left her vulnerable. What treatment would she seek? Based on her research bone marrow transplantation was only thirty percent effective and cost in excess of $150,000 even in 1979; for this reason it was not a viable option, for her.

When Ida learned about a natural approach to treating illness utilized by Dr. Harold klassen, the naturopathic physician on whom this story is based, she decided that would be her choice. Her health was restored for less than ten percent of the cost of bone marrow transplantation. The excitement was something she couldn't keep to herself.

When Dr. Klassen's office was raided on February 2, 1995, Ida was still under his care. This would become the basis of her book Silent Storm.
