The Myth of Mediation Neutrality: The Psychoanalytic, Phenomenological, and Linguistic-Structural Approach to Mediation

The traditional view is that a mediator is a neutral, third party who helps two or more conflicting parties cooperatively resolve their differences. The implication has always been that a mediator facilitates in a dispassionate, uninvolved way. However, if we utilize new insights about the nature of the human mind, we can see how acknowledging unconscious phenomena may alter our assumptions about sound mediation methodology.
