This book portrays not only the colorful past of historic Pontotoc, Texas, but also documents the revitalizing of the ghost town it had become. After Comanche Indian terrorism was finally subdued in the early 1870s, Pontotoc became a thriving town with businesses, a hotel, a college and a bright future as a planned county seat with railroad access. Then disaster struck! An 1887 typhoid fever epidemic decimated the town, closed the college, and filled the cemetery. Recently some original stone buildings have been restored and a vineyard and winery have been established.
