Relationships: Terrific or Toxic

I believe that at the end of our time on earth we will be judged regarding our relationships with others in how we treated them and how we spoke to them. The way we view relationships, touches and affects every area of our lives. Our marriage, family, church, business, government and just plain ol' everyday living. The old saying that actions speak louder than words is true. Words are easy to speak, but it is often harder to do what we know is right. Philippians 1:6, in The Message, tells us that God has started a great work in us and wants to bring our lives to a "Flourishing Finish" in 1everything we do. As we explore this avenue together, let's determine, even before we crack this book open, that we will be open to the Holy Spirit in this vital area of our lives and be ready to change the things we need to change to be over the top in our relationships.

It may be important for us to define two key words to our adventure: Terrific and Toxic. Terrific: Marvelous, wonderful, sensational, outstanding, great, superb, excellent, first-rate, first-class, dazzling, out of this world, breathtaking; fantastic, fabulous, super, blue-ribbon, magical or awesome. Toxic: Poisonous, virulent, noxious, deadly, dangerous, harmful, injurious or unhealthy. These two words will set the pace as we venture down the pathway of developing good relationships.

Building genuine, solid relationships is essential to everything we do throughout our lives. Relationships make or break our lives in many ways. When we understand we are to put on the traits and personality of God, it changes how effective we are as ministers, parents, church leaders, neighbors, or customers. Buckle up!
