My Ubuntu Soul is a book of poetry inspired by South Africa. My Ubuntu Soul is a long story that started in the 1980s, with a deep involvement in the struggle against Apartheid, a growing identification with that struggle, and the country in it&sgrave; wholeness. I have witnessed and enjoy writing about the beauty of South Africa landscapes, the diversity of the cultural identities, and the laughing warmth of the people who lived life in the midst of the difficulties and hardships of everyday life. Nelson Mandela and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. shared a dream. Their dream was about building a Rainbow Nation of equality where race would not be an issue anymore. It is a long, difficult, and continuing process, in which, between all the good things that happen to close gaps, suddenly, you have eruptions of intolerance and xenophobia that occurs. As a poet I am inspired and touched by all the human vibrations and emotions surrounding me. I did sleep in a traditional hut in a Shangaan Village, a one room container house in Soweto and a villa with a swimming pool searching for my own identity. But the happy smiles of the children and the bridges I could built with my students and circle of friends showed me the way, my connection with Africa was and is a love affair, a home coming, with lots of happy moments and some sad moments as well, but that's life. I hope you will travel the journey with me and enjoy it! As they say in Zulu 'ayoba' (let's go for it)!
