Wife of the Deceased: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Learning to Live Again

Wife of the Deceased is a personal memoir that spans the three years following the tragic and unexpected death of my husband, Matthew Bell, at thirty-eight years of age. The content is drawn from my journal entries depicting every aspect of my journey through the grieving process. This account of the physical, mental, and emotional effects of grief I experienced following his death is raw and uncensored. My goal in writing Wife of the Deceased is first to honor my husband and the man he was. Second, I hope to help anyone in a similar situation by sharing my account of the stages of grief; the extreme rage I felt, the seemingly insane thoughts that went through my head on a day-to-day basis, and the physical assault my body suffered. My goal is to attest to and validate what grievers are feeling and perhaps ease a fraction of the pain and anguish they are living with every day.
