A Head of Lettuce

Head of lettuce is a fictional account of US logistics supply troops on Lagun -- An island in the Caribbean at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Pentagon answered the call by sending US troops to Lagun. An invasion of the island was contemplated, but it turned out that there were very few communists to fight. After a few months of inaction, US dependents were allowed to join their spouses in uniform, and food became an issue. Since the tropical climate is challenging for fresh vegetables,and people fall ill from amoebic dysentery, the Army told its families not to eat the local lettuce. Searching for a head of lettuce could get you into big trouble.
