The Numb

The City is a place of perfection and productivity. Every day, Vic takes his pills. All of the citizens take them for good health. Three Life Vitamins, three times a day.

No one talks to him. No one touches him. He doesn't even look at them. And The City runs flawlessly around him.

Until one day he skips a dose. Slowly, new feelings begin trickling into his consciousness. Things he's never experienced before. Suddenly he is aware of a possibility of connecting with other living things around him-starting with a stray dog. When he risks everything to bring her home and keep her safe, he feels happiness, sadness, and all kinds of emotions he didn't know existed.

When a new coworker, Kim, arrives and seems to be paying an unusual amount of attention to him, he must make a decision. He wonders if he's found someone with the answers to his questions about the Life Vitamins ... and if he can trust her to keep it a secret from The City.
