Frankie has a business. It's called Hereafter Party Planning, and it's about getting funerals right. Whether it's the back room of an Irish pub and a few well-chosen lines out of James Joyce or cheesecake and Sarah Vaughan on a blue-black terrace, she always finds the way to capture the moment of whomever's been loved and lost.

There's something wrong with Frankie's world, though. The city blinks out around her now and then, and she sees what's underneath: nothing at all, not even time. The feeling she can't shake any more than she can explain is that something happened to us all a while ago - and we never got our moment.

So the day a strange old white-suited man who claims to know everything comes to tell her that the world's already ended, she finds herself believing him, even before he shows her how in hell and heaven this could be. But when she finally does see all the dark beneath the light, she'll find out just how deep she has to go to make it right.
