The old saying goes, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." Like catching fish from oceans and lakes, catching the author's meaning from the pages of Scripture is something we can learn. Once we learn, we can find nourishment for the rest of our lives! The author even includes examples of how the tools can help us understand the people around us. The principles, traditionally taught in courses on "grammatical-historical hermeneutics," are not new. However, the author presents them in a fresh and simple way, demonstrating that they are rooted in common sense. This makes the book accessible to both believers and unbelievers. The author has spent 23 years as a missionary church planter, teacher, and coach in Montreal. This book is the culmination of his work to equip ordinary people to grasp the Scriptures for themselves.
