In 1970, deserving Nobel laureate Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn argued that "violence, less and less embarrassed by the limits imposed by centuries of lawfulness, [was] brazenly and victoriously striding across the whole world, unconcerned that its infertility [had] been demonstrated and proved many times in history." Nearly half a century later, the situation has clearly deteriorated.
