Man's Horizons : A Universal Perspective on Mankind Through the Ages

Man's Horizons is about humanity's comprehension of the world, our place in it and our ability, as a democratic global society, to influence Mankind's future on Planet Earth. The book provides a comprehensive platform for readers to gain an understanding of the forces at work that impinge on the Modern Civilised World. These include the origins of both the Earth itself and ancient Man, followed by the legacy of our war torn past that has established the contemporary mindset of the masses. The world's current agricultural, mining and industrially based eco-political system has generated great wealth but, in so doing, has introduced very significant stresses on the biosphere. These include the impact of a burgeoning human population, excessive land, sea and atmospheric pollution, pending climatic upheaval, widespread desertification, unbridled deforestation and the dawn of the sixth great extinction event. The existing order is not sustainable. The future of humanity is considered by way of two detailed scenarios. The 'Old Road' exposes the likely consequences of ignoring the problems that have taken hold, whereas the 'New Road' suggests how the world community may address these challenges by avoiding over-population, adopting 'Global Design' and striving for 'Super-Civilisation'.
