The book challenges the reader to look beyond the masses and towards that spark of individuality that is in his/her inner being; L. Pearlheart chose to refer to it as the light.

EXCERPTS FROM A POEM TITLED "TWO LOVERS":

They were no lovers of things which make a sublime creature a pity

No star royal rose from the heavens the day they met

No banners were unfolded to greet them

Flowers and roses, gifts to each other, they carted hidden in time

They were not rich for poverty of spirit is an exorbitant price to pay a measure

Poor they weren't for in the depth of scarcity they carried the spark of generosity

On each other they set the truest bet the day they met

The candles may flicker

The sun may set

But on the day they met it wasn't just a bet

Of the two mortals the gods in envy stood

For in all their glory as such they could not let go or would

A prime condition of every loving living thing

Two living things, two living things to the divine unintentionally they glowed

A true measure

A beacon to a shattered vessel

The promise of another sailing ship

All that is, is not what seems

All the living things can be

All living things can cease

As they did fall the heavens wept, somber liquids called rivers and embracing expanses hereafter known as seas, mourning their parting afar.
