The extraordinary lengths with which we have strived to save our heritage, the darkest episodes of humanity when we lost our heritage and how we have through the ages rebuilt or repurposed our architectural legacy for future generations.

Beginning with the Roman occupation through to the present day, the author guides the reader to present how our appreciation of historical buildings has changed throughout the centuries and what challenges may lay ahead.
