Moth

Moth is a sprawling contemporary Gothic horror set on the remote pilgrimage island of Skellig Éin, five miles off the wild western coast of Ireland. It has a large cast of larger-than-life characters but one main protagonist, the enigmatic Michael Eustace, around whom everyone and everything revolves.

Michael is a minor television celebrity and police consultant with a genuine gift for finding missing people. His gift comes at a heavy price. Not only does he suffer from chronic headaches which, he believes, are directly related to his colour-visions, but his police work has brought him to the darkest reaches of society and to the attention of some very dangerous and twisted people.

When his search for Hanna, the daughter of a childhood friend, leads him and Detective Inspector Brian Horse Hopkins into the deep, dark unexplored caves of Skellig Éin, Michael discovers a world of unimaginable terror that has, seemingly, remained hidden since the dawn of time. Hopelessly lost in the darkness Michael must use his unusual gift to find a way out of the nightmare and then defeat an enemy that threatens to destroy him and everyone he loves.

As the mystery deepens, Michael's search for answers will take him from the edge of madness into the shadow of the gates of Hell.

Moth is the debut novel of Martin G Jordan and is a contemporary take on Gothic tales of demons, monstrous creatures and things that go bump in the night. It calls to mind Bram Stoker's Dracula and Susan Hill's The Woman in Black. It is a cross between mystery and horror, The Mentalist meets Hannibal Lector.

Set in the backdrop of an Ireland caught between rational modernity and ancient superstitious traditions, Moth is a unique and terrifying thrill ride that will keep reader on the edge of his/her seat, until the very, very last page.
