A Romance by Rïse Phillips
Monica Rose is an amateur fashion-designer-turned-model. She is the daughter of world-famous romance novelist, Carol Armstrong Jones, and top cancer specialist, Jon Turner. Carol disapproves of Monica Rose's vocational choice and boyfriend, the emotionally oblivious but "genius" horror filmmaker, Manfred. Meanwhile, Carol and Jon's marriage is in shambles-both are aware of the other's "extra curricular" activities.
Jon's latest lover leads Carol to drive away from a cancer research benefit despite her run-in with several gin & tonics. The result? Death....
Now, in addition to discovering a strange man (world-class business man Adam Adair) at Mom's funeral, Monica Rose also finds one last manuscript-an autobiography. This book tells quite the different story of her mother, her past, and this Adam Adair.
And the plot only thickens from there....
Excerpt from the book:
"ARE YOU ALMOST READY, LOVE? We can't be late for my own movie premiere."
"I'll be right down," I told him.
We made it to the theatre with fifteen minutes to spare. I was a ball of nerves, even though I had seen Manfred's latest project weeks before. I don't even think he knew how truly brilliant it was. He held my hand as we walked down the red carpet. It was as if a million flashbulbs exploded in disharmonious synchronicity with each step we took. Members of the cast and crew made their respective way with us. Would it be glory or poison pens across the media world? Everything about the film, with commentary from all the critics large and small, would be known in an instant. Such was the way of our Back to the World new digital society. Nothing could escape criticism or praise from the "wanting to know everything about celebrities" universe.
"I'll have a special surprise for you later," was all Manfred had to say to me. I sat there through the entire movie, thinking of nothing else but my special surprise. Oh, why did he have to do that to me?
