Flying is terrifying to many people, and piloting an airplane is a domain seemingly dominated by men.

When flying slowly but surely came to scare her to death, Kim Jochl set out to overcome her fear by earning a pilot’s license. She figured the more she knew, the less she’d be scared. In theory that was true; in practice it wasn’t so simple. She knew it would be an incredible challenge, and one that might end in failure. But the encouraging, helpful, accepting, and genuine culture of aviation helped Kim achieve her goal and discover the joy of flying.
