Pete Thorsen has seen Jimmy Ray Evans only once in 30 years, so he's surprised when his former army buddy appears on his doorstep. Jimmy Ray insists on keeping a low profile, which is out of character for him, and does other odd things. A bar fight prompts Pete to ask a detective friend to check him out. The feedback stuns him. Now Pete's torn between helping a man he once considered a good friend and staying aloof from the fray.The more he probes, the deeper he gets dragged into a world of corruption and ugly family strife and violent grudges. And then becomes a target himself.
