Roots & Tides: Poems and Meditations Inspired by Africa

Roots & Tides is the freshman debut by poet/traveller/artist, Kierra Yvonne Fields. The collection is a series of poems and journals inspired by her travels throughout the continent of Africa. Roots & Tides explores the diversity in cultures and landscapes through the eyes of an African American artist discovering Africa for the first time.

The collection opens with Fields acknowledging (through the metaphor of land and water) the fact that her roots are African, although she is generations removed from the continent. From there, her journey takes the reader from her initial sense of the foreign and the familiar to her finding herself reborn on the land in which her deepest roots grow.
