Becoming Ernest

Becoming Ernest follows the exploits of Leslie Henry, a young man raised in poverty, as he seeks a different life for himself. Throughout the story, Leslie seeks to become like Ernest Hemingway, a man he doesn't really know, but whom his high school English teacher, Mrs. Fulkerson, called the "ideal man."

In trying to become like Ernest Hemingway, Leslie leaves his home and joins the military. Leslie soon learns that there is more to life than following in the footsteps of another. He finds love, war, death, and despair, all while trying to find himself: to become the ideal man, to become Ernest.
