The play was later expanded to seven actors and later into a novel. Many smaller theatres and theatre companies requested to perform the original two-actor version, and this is the edition for two actors.
The play is about Lawrence Caplan, a Vietnam War veteran who became a military psychiatrist. Before retiring, Caplan is asked to assess one last soldier. His patient is a young specialist, who stubbornly insists that he is ""good to go"" back to his unit in Afghanistan. Caplan soon discovers, however, the soldier is tortured by nightmares and flashbacks. Unexpectedly, the soldier's story unveils Lieutenant Colonel Caplan's amnesia for Vietnam and longing for his own son, killed in battle. Together, the two men launch on parallel journeys of the heart that change them forever.
