Sliding for Home

Sliding for Home is the story of three brothers coming to grips with a new home, a new school and a secret that has convinced their mother that the middle son, Byrd, should never play his favorite sport, baseball. The boy's new coach knows the secret. Their father, who played baseball with Coach, was a pitcher. When the boys were very young, he was hit in the face by a line drive that killed him. Coach helps the boys understand their mother's concern and also helps the mother understand that baseball injuries are rarely fatal. Byrd gets to pitch, Scotty finds he has more skills than he realized, and David gets a girlfriend. Mom and Coach marry.
