Transnational Higher Education in the Asian Context

This book aims to contribute to worldwide debates on internationalisation. It offers new insights and perspectives on internationalisation and transnational higher education (TNHE) with contributions from three continents. These include the international student experience in Malaysia, China, Japan and India as well as institutional perspectives and pedagogical implications of new research. The authors offer analysis of how TNHE affects students, teachers and institutions within and across continents.

Countries and education systems which are relatively new to hosting international students go through similar processes of adaptation by students, faculty members and university managers. Authors from Japan, the USA and Malaysia report experiences of internationalisation which are in common with experiences reported in other countries. Education systems and planning in China and Japan show differences from the Anglophone models of internationalisation; recent system changes as well as changes in student flows are described here.
