In 2023 the Singularity will arrive...

Biotechnology, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and other fields will converge, causing mankind's scientific powers to advance exponentially. Blindness, paralysis, and nearly every handicap or disease will be eliminated. Mankind will rejoice in its accomplishments.

But there is always a dark side to scientific advancement

By 2028 the world will be in chaos. Vicious human-animal hybrids will rage on our battlefields. Cybernetically enhanced soldiers will create their own nation-states, and millions will die when experiments in nanotech go horribly wrong.

To bring an end to the anarchy, America will field a team of invincible super soldiers - The Four Horsemen, and for a time the world will know peace again.

Then the Embodied will appear. Birthed from the darkest underside of post-singularity science, they will give up their human forms to become The Eight Immortals - godlike creatures built from living technology. Relentless in their quest to conquer humanity, they will topple nations, slaughter entire armies, and in a display of terrifying power destroy vast swaths of America’s infrastructure.

Then everything will change

On the day The Embodied attack America, a single man will step forward... and stun the world when he refuses to let a little girl die. The earth-shattering power he demonstrates is beyond anything the world has ever imagined, and at last... the Embodied know fear.

This is the story of that man... our last, and only hope.
