Eleven essays representing a fresh engagement, from a variety of critical positions, with the tales and nouvelles of Henry James. The collection contains new studies of well-known stories, such as 'Daisy Miller' and 'The Aspern Papers', and explorations of neglected areas, for example James's earliest signed stories from the 1860s, and such strikingly individual works as 'Glasses' and 'The Great Good Place'.
