Bruce (1805-92) was an English nonconformist minister and schoolmaster, respected historian of Tyneside and author. This work giving the historical context of the Norman Conquest as depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry, which is illustrated with 17 plates interspersed with the text, was first published in 1856.
