Pompeii, Latrines and Down Pipes

This volume contains both a comprehensive photographic catalogue, and analysis of the latrines and downpipes of Pompeii. Topics dicussed include the location of the latrines, including no longer extant first floor latrines; how the toilets were cleaned, flushed and emptied, and sewage systems; attitudes to privacy; and decoration and the famous graffiti. The catalogue contains plans and photographs of all identified latrines and downpipes, including their siting within individual insulae and the wider city.
