Effective Child Protection

This book examines how child protection workers can become more analytical and critical in aspects of their work, concentrating on the decision making processes rather than the specific content of practice, while at the same time emphasizing the significance of the roles of intuition and empathy in practice. A beginning chapter is devoted to the debate between analytic and intuitive modes of thinking, and later chapters look at cultural attitudes to families, problems of defining abuse and the consequences of these problems for research, policy, and practice, and assessment of the risk of child abuse.
