This book provides practical strategies for administrators and teachers (school leaders) to work as leaders (“stewards”) to establish and maintain schools that include all students without adding on expensive, reactive, and ineffective separate programs, classrooms, and schools. This inclusion encompasses students who suffer from prejudice, bias, racism, etc., in addition to disability. The strategies are put forth in four major sections of the book that illustrate how to: (1) shift from providing separate programs to a few students to providing excellent educational services for all students, (2) channel the standards movement into proactive teaching and assessment to ensure student success, (3) use funding and the law to support excellent services for all, and (4) view the process as a journey, not a destination.
