Butterflies features the inventive, bedazzling paintings of American artist and naturalist Titian Ramsay Peale (1799–1885). Of the Peale dynasty of painters, the artist devoted his life to The Butterflies of North America, working in watercolor, gouache, lithography, and collage. Peale’s original manuscript is now in the Rare Books Collection of the American Museum of Natural History.
