Street Verses: A Rooster's Crow

Born in Dallas, Texas 1984 as Jason
Crump, raised as a Compton, CA
native, life was in a crossroad seeing
how a country boy was introduced to
the big city life. As I came of age, the
streets that would soon claim the lives
of many close friends that caused life to
change.
By the age of nine years old, I found
myself fi ghting for respect & in years to
come fi ghting for my life! Yet life was
moving in to high gear by the age of 12.
I would have lived in fi ve different cities
only in a matter of 2 years. My mother
& step father did the best they could
to remove me from the trap that many
refer to as the hood! In their mind, it
would help me have a better life, yet I
always found my way to the trap (the
hood) of the fast pace city life, not
knowing I was running straight for a
brick wall.
MONTHS later, I became a father of
two and a husband. Now with the focus
of God and seeing life for what it is-a
blessing. I have put the former things
behind me with a passion to help others
so they won't waste their lives as I once did . . . I am truly a man now. I hold a
job and live through the struggles everyday with the hope to see the next day by
God's grace. I know he did not give me all these for nothing so I feel so blessed
that I was chosen by God to do His will-to mentor people!
I am now a father of three lovely children (Jeremiah, Jason II and Leilani)
and being a family man has made a turn around.
