While working in a junior high school, Earle Lord moonlighted as a short story writer, selling a dozen to Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine. There are four of his best plus one unpublished story. Four of them are Eric Ambler type mysteries, stories of ordinary people getting caught up in the extraordinary circumstances, yarns of school teacher, bank teller, loan officer, and school counselor, getting involved with terrorist, organized crime bosses, espionage audience, C.I.A. operatives, and saboteurs and spies and not believing what was happening. The fifth is a fantasy of what it would be like to be kidnapped and held for ransom when rich, and blind.
