Art St. John chose “rhythmic verse” to describe his feelings about life. During a traumatic period when he underwent eight operations for total knee replacements and follow-up rehabilitation, complications arose when he was diagnosed with a known incurable MERSA bacterial staph infection. When placed on intravenous antibiotic treatments, health care staff were concerned that isolation could impede remedies being made to cure the MERSA infection because he was already suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Concerned too, Art prayed intently to the Holy Spirit that night asking for help to cope with this traumatic episode in his life. The next morning he awoke to a “spiritual voice” telling him to “write poetry.” He looked out his window seeking inspiration and words flowed effortlessly as he wrote the poem, “The Window.” Since then he has written more than 200 poems, 101 of which are in Everythin' but the Kitchen Zink.
