Growing Up in the West

In the beginning Luke Markanis is a young 6 or 7 years living on the plains of Kansas in 1870. His father William (Bill) works for several Railroads as a trouble shooter and structural engineer. Luke's mother dies early in his life and his father takes him on his' many trips working on railroad development, Luke has no grandparents but is taken under the arm of a wealthy railroad Barron's wisdom. Railroads have crossed the U.S and now the many branch roadbeds are being constructed to populate the plains, and to extract coal, gold, silver and other minerals.
