Calico Dance: Escape to Sweden

This is an historical fiction novel depicting life in seventeenth Germany during the Thirty Yearsâ War. It is told basically through the eyes of three children as their family escapes one tragedy after another on their journey to Sweden. After their home is burned in Hesse, in the turmoil of the Counter-Reformation, they are wandering nomads finding help along the way as this family travels north. Some unique encounters with another escaping family, a wandering pikeman, and a number of ruffians along the way add drama to the story. Though this book is fictional, there is much truth in what is said throughout its message.
