"A woman in ministry is a topic that even in the 21st century is still controversial. It is a topic whose conclusion most likely will not be settled until Jesus returns. The Bible certainly has a definitive ruling on women in ministry, but interpretations vary to a great degree dependent upon who is providing the interpretation. While the controversies continue, people needing to hear words from the Lord are possibly being overlooked and neglected and opportunities for introduction to salvation being missed.
God spoke in Isaiah 40 stating, âwho will go for me?â and the answer rang out from an unlikely source,
as Isaiah spoke, âhere am I send meâ. What a simplistic response to a great and grave responsibility. Many women are saying, âHere am I send meâ, but the response in many instances comes back, this is not a role for women.
Such is the case today, and such was the case over 125 years ago, when a courageous woman, Mrs. Julia A. J.
Foote lived and penned an autobiographical sketch, entitled, âA Brand Plucked from the Fireâ taken from
Zechariah 3:2. This scripture highlights the narrow escape that a sinner makes from eternal death as he or she professes faith in Jesus Christ. Prior to that profession the sinner is waiting to be judged unto eternal fires. But by grace through faith the sinner is rescued unto salvation.
The scripture also describes the life of Julia Foote as she made one after another narrow escape in life that reinforced her call to ministry and gave her the fortitude and perseverance to overcome all obstacles in fulfilling Godâs plan for her life. As you read this narrative written by Julia Foote approximately 125 years ago you will journey back in time and gain insights on women in ministry from her breadth of ministry experiences and draw courage from her accomplishments."
