Have you ever felt like you were in full control of your life only to discover that you had no control at all? Maybe you've found yourself struggling with an unfamiliar challenge that changes your life forever. This book is largely about two young men who experienced both. The first young man was from the antediluvian period. His name was Jacob. The majority of his life was spent struggling to receive God's blessing. This book underscores the hefty price tag that often comes with being truly blessed by God. After many mistakes and deceptions later, one night he struggled with a stranger that upon request, blessed him with what he really needed to be considered divinely blessed. That night he took a beaten but he refused to release the stranger without receiving a blessing.
I am the second young man. Although I grew up in the twentieth century I can relate to having a desire for God's best but constantly grappling to survive life's worst. Ironically, the notion of struggling with a stranger and being blessed by that stranger is descriptive of several eventful periods in my life. The pinnacle experience is chronicled in this book in the section, "A Chronicle of a Beating." It is a period when my nuclear family grappled with the strange disease of breast cancer which came to claim one of our members. The stranger left us with a limp but it also left me with the determination to never take a beating in life without insisting that it bless me in return.
