Under Control

In 2008, vehicles in the United States began accelerating out of control, killing hundreds, maiming thousands and causing millions of dollars in property damage. These accidents happened in almost every state, and involved almost all makes of vehicles newer than 1996. Even experienced drivers were unable to bring these run-away vehicles to a stop. Survivors all told the same story: I couldn’t get the brakes to work. It was as if the car had a mind of its own.

After investigation, the NTSB issued an official explanation, blaming these horrifying accidents on mechanical failure and driver error.

The official explanation was wrong.
