The Virtual Fields Method: Extracting Constitutive Mechanical Parameters from Full-field Deformation Measurements

Full-field measurement techniques are becoming more and more common both in academia and industry. Techniques such as digital image correlation, which have been commercially available for several years, have contributed to the growth in full-field measurement. The problem facing mechanics of materials engineers and researchers, however, is how to take full advantage of this new wealth of experimental information. The Virtual Fields Method is meant to be the first step engineers, students and researchers take towards learning and utilizing this method. The book aims to present all the new experimental information available by providing detailed explanations through training materials and tutorials, with the goal of guiding an engineer or student interested in developing and applying the Virtual Fields Method to their work.
