The Rattlesnake Room: A Novel of 1968

After his bank's Christmas party, where Larry Eliot is promoted to Executive Vice-president, a friend and rival takes him to the Rattlesnake Room, a topless bar. There Larry meets Doris, a beautiful black stripper, with whom he has a secret affair during the tumultuous months of 1968. As he leads a secret life with her, he works in a congressional campaign, fights a takeover of his bank, and watches and reacts as Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy are assassinated and America erupts in riots and protests. Finally, his affair with Doris causes his arrest for murder.
